Rocks Gets a Crate
By Peggy Jencks of BCR-CA
Recently a young couple adopted a dog that appeared on BCR-CA's Owner Page. This is a page for dogs that their owners can keep until they are placed. Rocks is 18 months old and was evicted by the landlord of his original home. Apparently his owners didn't have time for him and he occupied his time redecorating the yard. His owner didn't want to take him to the pound so she ran an ad. in the paper to give him away free. Nobody ever came and the date was fast approaching that the landlord said he must be gone. Then a women that heard about him said she would take him in until a home could be found. After trying herself for awhile to place him she contacted us. We placed him on our page and in less then two weeks, he was adopted.
Less then a week after being adopted I received an email from his new people. They needed help, and wanted any suggestions I might have. Training classes wouldn't start until March and they couldn't leave him alone. According to their email, Rocks is great, knows lots of tricks, plays ball and frisbee. He is very loving and just a great dog. However, they are at their whits end. Every time they leave him in the house alone, even for just a few minutes, he goes on a rampage and has even torn down the blinds.
I sent them a very long email explaining separation anxiety and suggesting a crate. I included instructions on crate training. They had never heard of crate training, but went right out and bought one. Several hours later, I received this picture. Apparently, Rocks is already crate trained and was relieved to see it. He crawled in and went to sleep before they had it together. Note the door is on the top.
