My 1989 M3 and I have been active with our local BMW club for many years as a High Performance / Racing Instructor. At one point in time, the car was my daily driver and little by little has been converted to a full-blown racecar. One bright sunny track day it occurred to me as I looked around the paddock at all the beautiful machinery strewn about, that racecars are a wonderful vehicle for advertising; usually sponsors for the racing team, but sometimes for charitable causes that need attention. I glanced over at my little M3 and noticed that it was a perfectly blank slate. As it was no longer used for daily transportation, I didn’t need to worry about graphics catching the attention of the local authorities. No longer requiring anonymity, I decided that if I was going to be attracting attention for something, it might as well be our wonderful rescue MABCR.
My dogs Zoe and Nick have always come to the track with us to participate in the fun and look after everyone in the garage. People have gotten to know them and I am often asked as to their origins. It’s a great opportunity to talk about rescue and sprinkle in some education. Thanks to the new magnetic graphics on the car and on our tow vehicle, hopefully I will have even more opportunities to spread the word. The current setup is really the first stage as we are looking into something a bit more permanent and eye-catching. Stay tuned for updates on the upgrades and adventures of the MABCR racecar!
