A year of playing Chess…
Well, I can’t believe the year has gone by so quickly. It has been a year now since I adopted Chess from MABCR. Chess was my first dog that I adopted from a rescue organization. My two other border collies were dogs that were not wanted, but they really only lived their lives with me.
I can’t say that everything was super easy in the beginning. The first two weeks went pretty smoothly. I guess this is what they called the honeymoon stage. But then, things got tough for about a month. I felt that I was having a lot trouble with him.
With the support of MABCR, I worked through that month. Then, the most amazing thing happened. Chess and I finally bonded! When this happened, I learned how amazing it was to adopt a dog.
Since then, things have been great! He has really fit in with my family. All of my dogs are included with different things that I do, but some of them do get their activities that they only do with me. For instance, Blitz competes in agility, and Comet has started herding. Chess and I are working on obedience and some agility obstacles. He would much rather I throw him a ball without the other dogs though!
When I can only work with one dog, I take Chess. He goes with me to other people’s homes when I am helping them train their dogs. He makes a great demo dog and is so calm. Chess goes hiking with me when I can only take one dog. He goes for rides in the truck whenever I can take him. If I am going to different events where there are large crowds and dogs are allowed, Chess goes with me.
We recently came back from a vacation in the mountains of Tennessee. During this time, all of us enjoyed the days hiking the picturesque mountains.
Chess has been such a great addition to my family. I feel like I have had him for 4 years instead of just 1. My life would not be complete without my 3 awesome border collies.
Thank you for everything!
Wags!
